Inconsistencies

I got to thinking today and there are many inconsistencies many people will never see, hear or read about. These inconsistencies occur daily out there and here in prison because they center around our criminal justice system. Inconsistencies in Kentucky happen in the length of sentences, in our parole system, even inside prisons as far as privileges for male and female prisoners.
Today I pray no one's child gets into trouble or goes down the wrong path. Yet today I’m going to ask anyone who’s listening who is a parent, an aunt, or an uncle consider what if your child makes a bad mistake at 21. Maybe if you’re listening, please close your eyes...your child is hanging with the wrong crowd, using drugs, living a dangerous lifestyle and finds themselves in the middle of a murder scene. they receive a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
They, and you, are even told that if they rehabilitate themselves with education, programs and keep a clean prison record they will get a second chance. Your son or your daughter, they meet the parole board after those 25 years. They’ve acquired 3 Associate Art degrees, many programs and have a clear conduct report …but the Kentucky parole board gives your child 5 more years, and they mark on that piece of paper that the ‘reason’ is because the seriousness of the crime…that’s never gonna change. Then a parole member says your child must have manipulated the system to have kept a clear record for that long.
So they pick themselves up, and they do those 5 years…. your child gets one nonviolent infraction during that time and goes back to the parole board with 4 1/2 years clear conduct, mind you, a bachelor's degree in theology, paralegal degree, and more programs... this time the board gives your child 5 more years and marks the reason as ‘poor institutional record’ because of one infraction!
Your son or daughter picks themself back up again, and this time they do their 5 years but this time with clear conduct, 100+ programs more letters of support, and a master’s degree in Christian counseling. They go before the Kentucky Parole Board for a third time….and gives your child a serve out and told to die in prison. Mind you, each time your child met the board there were others with violent more heinous crimes also met the parole board while your child never touched the victim, and they’re given parole. Others who gave birth and stuffed toilet paper into the baby's mouth causing death. Others who committed murder in another state and came to Kentucky and to do the same. Others who ran a kid's karate school with 40 counts of child abuse. Teachers having sex with students, etc. I could go on and on while others may deserve a second chance, your child is told to die in prison! Should it matter what county? Should it matter whether it is poor or rich? Should it matter if gay which should have no bearing on the facts, but it did?
Stay with me...your son or daughter has been in prison since February of 1986. You go home, turn on the news tonight and a woman is given 7 years for killing a cop, a man gets 15 years for killing two teenagers, a man robs a home and kills 4-year-old and gets 6 years, etc!
Think again...your son or daughter has a codefendant. Their record contains dirty urines, fights, embezzlement, paying people to harass, beat upon and attempt to kill your child while in prison... the parole board chairwoman calls your child's name in the parole hearing. No difference was made even though your child did it right now for over 40+ years?
This is Karen, I am that daughter with a mother, having lost my father, stepfather, grandfathers, cousins, and more. This is Karen and I am pleading for mother's and father's, churches, teachers, politicians to care about my life and tell Kentucky and other States to do the right thing...adopt second look laws so rehabilitation and families' matter. This is Karen asking you to right the inconsistencies!
