Tithing

Malachi 3:10 says to “bring all the tithes, to test the Lord in this and see if He won’t open up heaven and pour out blessings beyond our expectations.
Proverbs 3:9-10 says honor the Lord with our best (first fruits) and we will have overflowing.
1 Timothy 6:17-18 tells us don’t be obsessed with money, it is here today gone tomorrow. We should seek God, He will pile on the riches, to do good, help others, be generous. If we do that, we will build a treasure that lasts.
I know some of us are thinking we tithe or know people who tithe and are not wealthy or overly blessed. Some are thinking how can I be standing here with a death by incarceration sentence and saying this. Well, I am blessed in so many ways I can mention; family, friends, health, gifts like music I share with you, a fight, and prayer warriors reaching heaven for me. Who am I to have deserved all this?
Also, there are people who give the law of 10% and go through the motions, but is that true biblical tithing? Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-8…”remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion. For God loves a cheerful giver and God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
Tithing is a matter of the heart and opens doors for God to be directly involved in our lives and bless us. God always looks on the heart. I ask us not to tithe as a religious routine, but do it in faith, as a genuine expression of our love for God and His church.
In Malachi’s day, they were going through the motions and missing honor because their hearts were offering God their leftovers. God blesses us in breath, healing, families, and more, so we should give with a thankful attitude. Fill out the tithing slip and tell God thank you for receiving my tithe as an act of worship, look down from heaven and bless me. Then read Deuteronomy 26.
Don’t be shy, tithe boldly, gladly, diverge 10% if you want it, give Him 100% of your heart!
Are you tithing in fear or faith? Give in faith, give of yourself, your time, your talents and your money as an expression of who you are…a child of the greatest giver ever…the image of God.
